Mayne Island - Georgina Point Lighthouse Park

Shortly after disembarking at the Village Bay ferry terminal - and being unsuccessful in our search for a place to eat - we opted for an exploration of the park at the Georgina Point Lighthouse. If I were a permanent resident of Mayne Island, I'm sure I'd be a frequent visitor to this place. I've kept the photo captions to a minimum; I think the scenery speaks for itself. (2016-09-25)

Wells - Historical Colours

On our yearly visits to the Cariboo, more often than not, a visit to historic Barkerville is on the agenda. This year (2014-06-14), as usual, we also took the short side trip into the village of Wells. If, as a photographer, you like character and colour, this is a community you should not miss. I've not included any explanation with the pictures because, quite simply, the buildings speak for themselves.

French Creek - Herring Season

On March 7, 2013 I'd decided to nose about at French Creek harbour; I'm hopelessly in love with boats. I hadn't planned on witnessing the hectic that is herring season, but there it was.

I took this picture because of the seeming "confusion" of shapes and colours.
It perfectly captures the movement and cacophony that is
 herring season. (2013-03-07)

Barkerville in September

A trip to visit Britt in Quesnel is not complete without a drive out to Barkerville. This year we thought we'd forego Barkerville in lieu of the shorter drive to Cottonwood House. The gods conspired against us, as Cottonwood House was closed for the season (2015-09-27). There was little else to do: drive on to Barkerville... TBCompleted

Telegraph Cove in the rain...

I'm reasonably happy with the slideshow in the previous post. For this post, I thought I'd try another slideshow. In this case, Telegraph Cove.

On our way home from Sointula (2016-02-10) we took the short side trip to Telegraph Cove. We thought it was well worth the drive.

Sointula on Malcolm Island

For this post, I thought I'd try something a bit different. Today I'll post a slideshow of our recent (2015-02-09/10) trip to Sointula on Malcolm Island.

ChuteLake in 2013

In the summer of 2002, Britta and I biked a small section of the Trans Canada Trail (the Kettle Valley Railroad section, from Chute Lake to McCulloch Lake). We started at Chute Lake just north of Naramata. There's a story about that start that'll have to wait for another blog entry. The following year, the entire region around Chute Lake, all the way to Kelowna, was caught in the midst of a terrible forest fire

I hadn't been back to Chute Lake since that bike trip until Marco and I took the opportunity, between rain showers in the "sunny" Okanagan, to drive up to the lake in August of 2013. The first thing I noticed about our 2013 trip was the condition of the road, While it had never really been a great road, this time it was decidedly worse than I'd ever seen it. Nonetheless, we crawled our way around huge potholes as I wanted to show Marco the lake, and see for myself what the burned out area would look like, 10 years after the fact.
